Skillet-Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich

Note about this recipe:

There are times when I’m still plugging away on the computer, and everyone is starving. That’s when Dr. K steps in and creates this simple, yet incredibly satisfying ham and cheese sandwich. To ratchet it up a bit, use thicker slices of artisan bread with a variety of grains. If you want to go crazy, add sliced dill pickles. If this recipe looks ridiculously easy, that’s because it is.

Although the sandwich demands little finesse, the result is very tasty.

What you’ll need:

Big hot pan (Translation from Emily:  a skillet grill pan works great because it keeps the butter in the grooves of the pan; the bread doesn’t become soggy.)

Melt much butter

Slap down a slice of bread and put some cheese on it. Put the ham in the hot pan too and cover the pan.

Before the bread starts to burn, put the ham on the cheese, slap other slice of bread on top and flip.

Again, prior to any burning, take out sandwich and eat it.

I call this the “sanity saver.”
